Trouble on My Mind

by Banjo_Brad, posted 14 Sep 2009 01:07 PM

Trouble on My Mind I've just added a new clawhammer banjo tune to my music page.

Trouble on My Mind is from the Kentucky fiddler John Salyer. Usually played as a fiddle tune today, it is consider a banjo tune.

Recorded on my patio on my Chuck Lee Lone Star banjo to an Olympus DVR WS-300M and processed through Audacity.

Dry and Dusty (or a typical Arizona summer day)

I've added the Old-Time fiddle tune Dry and Dusty to my music catalog.

Dry and Dusty

This take is slower than the tune is usually played, but it was still almost too fast for my fiddle prowess.

I added the guitar track and thus discovered how slow I had actually played the tune.

New (old) Tune For The Season - Breaking Up Christmas

by Banjo_Brad, posted 17 Dec 2008 12:45 PM

New (old) Tune For The Season - Breaking Up Christmas I have added an old time tune from the Appalachian area to my An Arizona Christmas album.

Breaking Up Christmas was a 2-week long series of house parties, a different home every night.

We should learn from our elders!

My New Noise Maker!

by Banjo_Brad, posted 03 Dec 2008 07:04 PM

My New Noise Maker! At 8:26AM on Tuesday morning, December the 2nd, 2008, I found a large box from Elderly Instruments on my front porch.

Barely containing myself until 11:00 AM to allow for temperature stabilization, I was finally able to unpack, tune up and do a little finger-picking on my brand new Martin 000-15S mahogany guitar.

Pictures: There are 7 pictures.

I really like this instrument! It has only 12 frets to the body, like a classical guitar, a slightly narrower fingerboard (great for my stubby little digits), and a great sound!

Sound Clip: About 1.5 minutes of sound from the guitar.

First I attempted to flatpick "Wildwood Flower", and my ability, or lack of, is evident; then I fingerpicked a quick chorus of "Railroad Bill" to show the difference in sound between pick and fingers.
